Design engineer (f/m/x) - MV switchgear

nuventura has developed a new generation of medium voltage switchgear that is highly innovative and environmentally sustainable. The existing product line is in the process of being expanded in new development projects as well as a global application-scaling of existing designs. For this expansion we are looking for experienced and enthusiastic design engineers in the medium voltage electrical equipment sector to work interdisciplinary within the development teams and with the partners of nuventura. 

As a design engineer your role will be the concept development and industrialization of new product lines based on our technologies and customer requirements. You will work in an international team, communicate with suppliers, manufacturing partners and business developers to define the future path for our products so that they meet technical as well as commercial requirements. To support the development process you will work within small teams of dedicated designers, bringing your mechanical and electrical engineering experience to the table. Your work will have a high impact on our innovative technology development.

Your role and responsibilities:

  • Understand technical and commercial requirements for new products and translate them into development specifications. Apply your understanding of mechanical and electrical design, industry standards and process optimization to conceptualize and detail market-ready solutions.

  • Develop mechanical and electrical components, providing designs, documentation and manufacturing requirements to suppliers. You will be responsible for design drawings, parts list and quality test protocols

  • Take responsibility for quality control, testing and lifecycle management of components and assemblies within our facilities, at suppliers or on-site with customers

  • Communicate and plan development timelines as a member of small specialized teams with flat hierarchies

  • Support your product from the concept stage, through prototyping up to on-site installations of within the electrical grid. Provide the necessary documentation and lead the introduction of new components hands-on.

  • Support our sales team to realize customer requirements and adapt the existing solutions to new use-cases in an ever-growing industry

 

Your background and experience:

  • A university degree (Bachelor/Master) in mechanical engineering, mechatronics, electrical engineering, process engineering, material science or a comparable field

  • Min. 5 years of experience working as a designer in the electrical equipment sector or a comparable position in a relevant industry 

  • Good understanding of common metal processing, machining and mechanical manufacturing processes. Knowledge of electrical switching components and design of pressure vessels is helpful

  • Minimum 2 years of experience using CAD software such as Autodesk Inventor or Catia for component drafting and creation of manufacturing drawings

  • Minimum 2 years of experience with FEM simulation software such as Ansys Mechanical or Fluent for structural and thermodynamic evaluation

  • Experience with prototyping cycles and development of electromechanical hardware systems

  • Knowledge of industrial standards in the electrical industry or experience with interpreting standards, regulatory documentation and technical patents

  • Good communication and very good documentation skills

  • Experience with work in small international teams

  • High sense of responsibility and independence

  • Written and spoken German basics (at least B1) and advanced English skills.

  • Willingness to regularly travel in accordance with project needs (roughly 15% on average per year)
